Milverton, Somerset

From the Victoria Rooms

The Victoria Rooms opened again for business on Saturday 12 September and are pleased to welcome back the Barefoot Boogie team and Red Dragon Karate. We look forward to the return of other hirers over the next few weeks. We are a Covid Secure Venue and are looking to our hirers to help us keep it that way.

The Rooms have had a deep clean and will be cleaned regularly in line with Covid 19 legislation and the committee are keeping up to date with the ever-changing rules. As mentioned last month, appropriate equipment and notices have been put in place to ensure that the Victoria Rooms is Covid 19 compliant.

Despite the recent ‘rule of 6’ limiting the number of people permitted to gather, venues operating under Covid Secure Guidelines can host more than 6. These include pubs, restaurants, places of worship and community centres – like the Victoria Rooms. We have however, reluctantly decided to postpone our planned book sale on Saturday 3 October as managing the risk of transmission arising from an event of this kind is likely to be quite difficult in the current circumstances. However, as soon as restrictions allow, the event will take place, so please watch out for an update in the magazine, on the village website and on posters around the village. Please also check for updates regarding our monthly market, although it is unlikely this will take place again until next year.

However, the 100 Club draw is still taking place each month and the lucky winner for September was Lynette Courtney – well done Lynette!

One way you can support our village hall without leaving home is by purchasing a ticket for the Somerset West Lottery and selecting the Victoria Rooms as your chosen charity. For each ticket purchased, the Victoria Rooms receives 50p. To purchase your tickets, go to the Somerset West lottery website  and search for Milverton Victoria Rooms. Good luck!

We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the Victoria Rooms as soon as circumstances allow.

Maggie Dinning is still collecting used postage stamps, so keep them coming. You can put them in the Victoria Rooms Reading Room if it is open, but if it is closed, put them in our white post box by the side entrance. Many thanks for supporting your village hall.
