Following the further easing of the Coronavirus restrictions, the Victoria Rooms is gradually returning to normal.
We also start this new chapter with some great news – the Victoria Rooms has been awarded Hallmark Levels 1 and 2 by the Community Council for Somerset in association with Action for Communities in Rural England – well done to the Chair and members of the Management Committee for all their hard work making this possible.
The first monthly market for sixteen months took place on Saturday 7 August and, apart from the masks and hand sanitiser it was as if it had never been away. There was a wonderful buzz of conversation, both in the main hall and in Victoria’s Café in the Reading Room. All the stallholders did a good trade and the new filter coffee went down a treat at the Café. A big thank you to Sally and Chris and their teams for getting the post-Covid Victoria Rooms’ monthly markets off to such a flying start! Molly Burton is the lucky winner of the August 100 Club draw – well done Molly!
The Victoria Rooms will be hosting a Heritage Exhibition on Saturday 23 October from 10am to 2pm. There is no entry fee and everyone is welcome to come along and discover fascinating facts about Milverton’s past. Amongst many interesting items, there will be displays on the Broadmead Family and other families with important connections with Milverton. There will also be loads of old maps, including the 1842 Tithe Map as well as information about some of the houses in the village. After a break of what will be nearly two years, we are pleased to announce that Gwil Wren’s Victoria Rooms’ Quiz Night makes a welcome return on Friday 12 November, starting at 7.30pm. As a Covid precaution, it has been decided to limit numbers, so there will be 10 tables available, each accommodating teams of up to 6 people. The cost will be £5 per person, to include a Ploughman’s supper. There will also be a bar and a raffle. Looking forward to 2022, we are planning a Craft Fair on Saturday 19 March 2022 from 10am to 2pm and would like to invite local crafters to book a stall.
