Friday Club March update

It seems incredible that we have now been back meeting for several weeks since the Christmas and New Year breaks and that we are about to go into March; how time flies. Since our last update on the Friday Club news, we have had an Environmental Agency inspection, ‘Safer food better businesses’. This inspection is legally required as we prepare and serve a meal to members, even though we are a small community group we are considered a business and have to attain a star rating, (0 lowest to 5 very good) to prepare and serve food on site.

This was our first inspection since moving to the Recreation Ground. After two and half hours of being inspected, not just inspecting the kitchen and storage areas the inspector inspected all policies and procedures, risk assessments, safeguarding procedures and of course our data protection.

Then the moment of being informed we had achieved a 5-star rating. We are thrilled to have achieved a 5-star rating which is the highest rating which could have been awarded. When you visit the Recreation Ground you will find our 5-star award displayed on the inner entrance door. A grateful thanks goes to the Recreation Ground manager and staff for their patience, help and understanding during this time.

Future unannounced inspections are carried out every eighteen months. These statutory inspections are to ensure that all regulations set down by the National Food Hygiene, food rating scheme are fully complied with and that we continue to maintain the highest standards.

We can now look forward to the burgeoning spring and enjoying the great views afforded through the large windows. It is so uplifting to see the gardens and fields come alive with the varied flora and fauna without the understandable trepidation of a pending initial EA inspection.

For The Queen’s Jubilee, our members have begun compiling a reminiscence journal of our memories from 1952 when the Queen arrived back from aboard following her father’s death through to the Coronation and on to wedding of Her Majesty the Queen and Prince Philip ready for the June celebrations. As editor, l feel very privileged to be the first to be reading them.

If anyone else has memories to share of this time, and would like to contribute to the journal please contact me.
Just a reminder we are always looking for new volunteers to join our group, helping to serve coffee, lunch, times and dates to fit in with your busy lives.

Hope to see you soon at the Cricket Club, Butts Way, Milverton every Friday 10.30am to 2pm
