Milverton, Somerset

Victoria Rooms April update

Following the lifting of the majority of national Covid restrictions, it has been decided to relax the requirements at the Victoria Rooms. While we have removed notices requesting hall users to wear masks and observe social distancing, we are sure that everyone will continue to be cautious and take appropriate steps to prevent the likelihood of infection. Hand sanitiser will still be available at both entrances to the Rooms for the time being. Please do not enter the building if you have had Covid 10 symptoms within the previous 7 days or if you are currently feeling unwell.

The monthly market on 5 March was very well attended and Victoria’s Café was buzzing with conversation from people enjoying a cup of coffee and a slice of cake. The market on 4 June will have a few little extras to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and if you would like to be part of this special day, please contact Sally of 01823 400320 to see if there are any stalls available.

As usual, the draw for the 100 Club took place at the market and the winner this time was Diana Smith, who very kindly donated her winnings to the DEC Appeal for Ukraine. Congratulations on your win, Diana, and thank you for your generosity.

As part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations the Victoria Rooms are hosting a “Made in Milverton” exhibition and would like to invite Milverton artists and craftspeople to display examples of their work, which can also be for sale. The exhibition will be for one day only on Thursday 2 June, and will run from 11.30am until 6pm, with set-up available the day before. There will be no charge for exhibiting. All we ask is that exhibitors spare an hour of your time during the exhibition to act as a steward. Light refreshments will be available during the day in Victoria’s Café in the Reading Room. The number of pieces of work each person can display will depend on the number of artists and craftspeople interested in exhibiting as this will dictate the amount of space available per person. We hope this will be a great opportunity to show off the wide variety of artistic talent that there is in our village. If you would like to take part by contact Sue by email at giving contact details and a brief description of your craft. If you can attach a photo of your work to the email that would be appreciated.

Looking ahead to the warmer months, plans are no doubt being made for all the get-togethers that have not taken place over the last couple of years, so you may want to hire one of our gazebos for your event. With the forthcoming Jubilee celebrations, we already have a number of bookings so, if you are planning an event and would like to hire a gazebo, please contact Philip on 01823 400609 to check availability.

Our Facebook page is an excellent up to date source of information about what is happening in our village hall so do take a look at and check out what is going on.
