After the enforced two-year break due to the pandemic, Milverton Street Fair returned on 2 May and it was brilliant to see the village buzzing with people, despite the rather dreary weather. Victoria’s Café and The Old Vic were kept busy throughout the day, with standing room only in the Reading Room on occasions. The committee would like to thank everyone who worked so hard in both the Café and the Old Vic and also to all those who supported us which enabled us to raise nearly £1,000.00 towards the running costs for our village hall. The main hall was also a hive of activity with loads of stalls selling a wide variety of items. It was a great day – the only thing that could have made it even better would have been a bit more sunshine!
We are now looking forward to the Platinum Jubilee celebrations taking place in the Victoria Rooms. On display throughout the Bank Holiday and at various times during June, will be The Queen’s Photographic Jubilee Pageant – an amazing photographic compilation of the many momentous events which have taken place during the 70-year reign of our Queen and find out what was happening in our village of Milverton at the same time. This beautiful collage has been carefully planned and presented by Bev Blackmore and is most definitely worth a visit.
The Made in Milverton exhibition takes place on Thursday, 2 June from 11am to 6pm. This is the chance to view the work of local artisans – everything will have been made by Milverton residents, proving what a talented village we live in.
Also taking place on Thursday, 2 June is the Photographic Treasure Hunt. Entry forms can be collected from the Victoria Rooms from 2pm and need to be returned by 5pm for marking and for the winner to be announced. There is no charge to enter and the prize for the winning team is a voucher towards a meal at The Globe. This is a great opportunity to take a walk around our delightful village and match the photos (often taken in close-up) with the features and buildings in the village – all you have to do is answer the questions relating to the photos and collect a few items of treasure along the way.
In addition to the above, Victoria’s Café will also be open on the 2 June between 11am and 4pm serving drinks and delicious homemade cakes.
The market on 4 June will have a few little extras to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and there will be a definite red, white and blue theme. There will be the opportunity to watch the Coronation on the TV in the Reading Room while enjoying coffee and cake at Victoria’s Café and it is hoped that there may even be a photo opportunity with the Queen and Prince Charles!
The 100 Club winner drawn at the May monthly market was Lindsey Carden. Well done Lindsey. 100 Club forms will soon be available for the next twelve months and, if you have not entered before, please contact Chris on 01823 400872 who can give you more details and provide you with a form.
