The long awaited assistants to help lower vehicle speeds have arrived and are happily flashing red or (more hopefully) green at passing motorists and potentially cyclists. There are six sites the SIDs can be placed in the village and they will be moved around on a regular basis to maintain maximum impact on drivers. Information on speeds/frequency is recorded and will provide useful feedback on driving habits, highlighting places where potentially more action needs to be taken. It should also be emphasised that the evidence is that they do work.
The team of volunteers who organise the changing of batteries and location needs augmenting urgently. This is an important task that needs the support of people willing to become involved. The more volunteers, the greater the spread of the workload. Please consider if you have the time to spare (if we have sufficient people it could be once a month) to help maintain this facility which benefits the whole village.
The small print is that you will, under SCC Highway rules, have to undertake a Health and Safety course to work on the highway (fully paid for by the Parish Council) and the lifting of the kit will not be for everyone, but these are minor details. If you are interested, please contact me.
