Victoria Rooms December update

Our second craft fair of the year, held on Saturday, 12 November, was a real success. Both the main hall and the Reading Room were home to 26 local crafters selling a wide range of beautiful handmade items – just in time for a bit of early Christmas shopping! We had a steady stream of customers between 10am and 1pm and everyone seemed to leave the Victoria Rooms with at least one carrier bag. It is hoped to have another craft fair in the spring next year so, watch this space!

Mince pies and merriment

Tickets are selling well for our pre-Christmas event – ‘Mince Pies and Merriment’ – which is on Friday 9 December. This will be a brilliant evening of music, readings, poems and sketches, all with a Christmas theme, ending with everyone joining in to sing some of our favourite carols. Tickets are £7 each, which includes mince pies and a glass of mulled wine. There will also be a bar. Doors open at 7pm and tickets are available by contacting Sue on 01823 400609 or email sueknowles14@btinternet.com. Do come along and start your Christmas celebrations at the Victoria Rooms.

Christmas community market

Our last monthly market before Christmas is on Saturday 3 December. As always, there will be a wide variety of items on sale but, as it is nearly Christmas, Victoria’s Café will be selling mince pies and mulled wine in addition to the usual delicious array of homemade cake. There may be tables available at future monthly markets and, if you are interested in booking one, please contact Sally on 01823 400320 or email barnyackland@hotmail.co.uk to check on dates. The monthly draw for our 100 Club winner will take place at the market. The winner of the November draw was Karen Baker – well done Karen.

Your village hall needs you!

Despite our pleas over the last few months for volunteers to become Trustees, as a number of our long-serving members are retiring from the committee at the end of 2022, we have had very little response. We urgently need more volunteers to come forward to help with the day to day running of our village hall to ensure that it continues to be at the heart of our community for many years to come. Without sufficient Trustees, the Management Committee will not be able to function. If you have been thinking about getting involved and feel you can spare a few hours per month please contact the current Chairman, Philip Knowles, on 01823 400609 or email philipjknowles@btinternet.com, who will be happy to give you some more information. Even if you don’t feel you are able to become a Trustee, the committee is always pleased to welcome Friends of the Victoria Rooms, upon whom they can call for occasional help, such as setting up or clearing away after the monthly market or a fundraising event.

We are very grateful to Stephen and Elaine who have volunteered to become Friends of the Victoria Rooms and were a great help at the craft fair. Thanks also to Karen Baker who, while unable to continue as a Trustee, has agreed to look after our website pages and social media account as a Friend. If you think you could help in this way, please contact Sue on 01823 400609 or email sueknowles14@btinternet.com.

Save your postage stamps

Please save your postage stamps from your Christmas cards (and indeed any post throughout the year) and donate these to the Victoria Rooms. They can be left in the pouch in the Reading Room if the hall is open or placed in an envelope and put in the postbox on the wall outside the hall. We have raised a not insubstantial sum over the last few years, simply by selling something which would otherwise have been thrown away.
