Victoria Rooms March update

The Victoria Rooms’ AGM was held on Tuesday 24 January and Chris Field, Shirley Blagden and Frances Vail all stepped down from the Management Committee and Rebecca Beard joined the committee as the Dramatic Society representative. Philip Knowles, the Committee Chair, thanked Chris, Shirley and Frances for their help and support of the Victoria Rooms and welcomed Rebecca to the Committee. The committee is also delighted to welcome Ruth Beaumont who has offered to become a Friend of the Victoria Rooms. There are still vacancies for Trustees and if you are interested in helping with the running of our village hall, either as a Trustee or as a Friend, please contact Philip of 01823 400609.

Tickets are now on sale for the Somerset Opera performance of The Gondoliers taking place at the Victoria Rooms on Saturday 25 March. The performance starts at 7.30pm with doors opening at 7pm and there will be a bar. Tickets cost £10 each and are available from Milverton Stores (cash only please) or via Sue on 01823 400609 or email

Our monthly markets take place on the first Saturday of the month. When, in addition to the wide range of items on sale in the main hall, Victoria’s Café will be open in the Reading Room, selling the usual delicious array of homemade cakes to accompany a cup of coffee and a chat. There may be tables available at future monthly markets and, if you are interested in booking one, please contact Sally on 01823 400320  or email to check on dates.

The monthly draw for our 100 Club winner takes place at the market. The winner of the February draw was Gwil Wren – well done Gwil!

Just to let you know that, as Saturday 6 May is Coronation Day, it has been decided there will not be a monthly market during May.

Monday 1 May will be Milverton Street Fair and, as in previous years, Victoria’s Café in the Reading Room will be open throughout the day selling delicious cakes and hot drinks and The Old Vic will be on the forecourt selling beer, cider, wine and soft drinks, with all profits going towards the upkeep of our village hall.

Please continue to save your postage stamps throughout the year and donate these to the Victoria Rooms. They can be left in the pouch in the Reading Room if the hall is open or placed in an envelope and put in the postbox on the wall outside the hall. This is not just a Christmas initiative and stamps are welcome all year round – it is a great way of raising money from something we would normally throw away!
