- During the public questions slot prior to the meeting, many residents’ spoke about the recent flooding with their concerns and the need for action to minimise the risk of the significant level of damage recurring. A drop-in meeting at the Victoria Rooms organised by Somerset Council took place on 20 June and the Statutory Report on the causes/preventative measures should be completed by August/September
- The Parish Council heard from the Recreation Ground on the impact that the expected loss of the annual £2,000+ grant, that has previously been given by TDBC/SWT/SC over many years, will have. Even without this situation arising, these are challenging times for those maintaining the facility and it is expected that as well as fund-raising, help will be sought from the community to ensure that this village asset is preserved
- The result of the Parish Internal Audit was presented to the meeting with no matters of non-compliance being identified. The accounts and further information will now be supplied to the External Auditor for further review. Relevant accounting documents are available for inspection on the PC website
- The first meeting of the Local Community Network which includes Milverton, will be held 7 July. These new bodies, set up by the Unitary Authority throughout Somerset, will allow discussion on local issues amongst Parish Councils and representatives of other agencies, plus County Councillors. It is fair to say that the role and effectiveness of LCNs will only become clearer over time, but they will hopefully encourage cooperation in our area
Full minutes of the meeting will be posted on the Parish Council website
The next meeting will be held on Monday 3 July at the Victoria Rooms. This meeting will look to co-opt two new Councillors to fill the current vacancies. If you are interested in standing or wish to find out further information about what the role involves, please contact me or any Parish Councillor.
If you have any queries on any Parish Council matter, please let me know.
