Milverton Parish Council October summary

  • The meeting was attended by PCSO Louise Fyne who has been involved in the police force for about 15 years but is now retiring. Thanks and appreciation were expressed for her work in Milverton. Her successor is PCSO Brianna Whelan who will no doubt be seen around the parish in due course
  • The Council agreed to support the planning applications in respect of Mildon (building works) and Ivy Cottage (tree work). At the time of writing it is still unknown when the solar farm application will be considered by Somerset Council (SC) Planning Committee
  • There is still no firm news on the production of the report to be prepared by SC on the flooding in Milverton. As has been widely reported, Somerset Council is in severe financial difficulties, and this can be seen to be impacting on its ability to provide services which in the past would have generally been expected to be straightforward
  • The message remains ‘Use It or Lose It’ in respect of the bus service for Milverton. The instances of unreliability do not help passengers so the use of the First Bus app and watching its Facebook page are recommended though this is accepted as not being ideal
  • A draft business plan prepared by the Trustees of the Recreation Ground was reviewed with a view to the PC considering what financial support can be offered to assist with retaining this asset of the village
  • Information is being collated to enable the option of a one-way system being introduced in Milverton to be reviewed, with the aim to ease the problems caused by narrow streets and large HGVs. It is noted that this has been looked into before but given that the issue is regularly raised by residents, all potential solutions will be investigated

Full minutes of the meeting will be posted on Milverton Parish Council.

The next meeting will be held on Monday 6 November at the Victoria Rooms. This meeting will again seek to co-opt a new Councillor to fill the current vacancy. If you are interested in standing or wish to find out further information about what the role involves, please contact me or any Parish Councillor.

If you have any queries on any Parish Council matter, please let me know.
