Despite being the coldest day of the year, our December monthly market was very well attended and all the stallholders did a good trade. We had our Christmas raffle in aid of the Victoria Rooms which raised nearly £50 and saw many very happy prize winners. Talking of winners, well done to James Sadler for winning the December 100 Club draw. There won’t be a market in January but the draw will still take place and the winner will be notified.
Do come along to the Victoria Rooms’ AGM, which is being held on Tuesday 9 January from 7pm and hear what has been achieved in the last year together with plans for the future of the Rooms. You are also invited to join us for a glass of wine and some nibbles and to have a chat to our current Trustees to see what is involved in the running and upkeep of our village hall. As previously mentioned, the Management Committee is in urgent need of new Trustees coming forward to ensure the continued smooth running of our village hall. Even if becoming a Trustee is not for you, the Committee is always very pleased to welcome new Friends of the Victoria Rooms upon whom they can call on for help to assist with such tasks as setting up and clearing away chairs and tables at various events.
While audience numbers were down this year, our Mince Pies and Merriment evening on 8 December was a great start to our Christmas celebrations. There were festive readings – some serious and some hilarious, music from the Blackdown Hillbillies, Milverton Dramatic Society’s take on A Christmas Carol and some excellent carol singing by everyone. As an added bonus, we raised over £150 for our village hall.
We are delighted to announce that Somerset Opera will be performing at the Victoria Rooms on Saturday 16 March when they will be presenting their raucous new production of ‘W.S Gilbert This Was your Life!’ chock full of your favourite songs and melodies from Gilbert and Sullivan’s extensive repertoire sewn together in a new, mad-cap story by D’Oyly Carte’s own Robert Traynor. Expect sumptuous singing, sensational story-telling, and sensational silliness. Tickets, at a cost of £10 each, will be available after Christmas by telephoning Bek on 07946627987 or by email email@example.com.
Details of our joint fundraising event with St Michael’s Church to be held on Saturday 6 April 2024, when Taunton Deane Male Voice Choir will be singing together with a guest appearance by John Hartock, will be available next month, so just put the date in your diary for what is going to be a most enjoyable evening.
