Milverton Methodist Church is a small village Church, situated halfway up Silver Street. It serves the nearby communities of Houndsmoor, Chipley, Fitzhead, Wiveliscombe and further a field, Bishop’s Lydeard. Sunday Services are at 10.30am, and once a month there is a joint United Service with St. Michael’s Parish Church, alternating between the Methodist Church and St. Michael’s. There is also a joint Communion Service at 6.00pm on the second Sunday of the month, and joint Fellowship Meetings on the other Sundays.
Every Wednesday morning from 10.30am to 12 noon there is a Community Cafe with delicious home made cakes and a Fair Trade stall. On the last Wednesday in the month light lunches are also served. This has proved to be most popular and is well supported by a good number of the local residents. On the first Saturday in the month there is a cake stall in the Victoria Rooms in Milverton from 10.00am to 12 noon, and proceeds go towards Church and Charity funds.
Recently the Church has been renovated, with the wooden pews taken out and the floor carpeted, allowing comfortably upholstered chairs to be used. This has proved to be most beneficial when using the Church as a Community Cafe, so that tables can be brought in. At the back of the Church are a well-equipped kitchen and a room, which is used not only for after service refreshments, but also by a number of outside local groups for their meetings.
