There are only 100 tickets available for this special night so grab yours now at Eventbright.

Now in his eightieth year, Albert has been on tour constantly since the early ’60s and has played on literally thousands of sessions with some of the biggest names in post-war popular music.

The 23 April and 24 April sees Albert playing at the annual Crossroads Guitar Festival in the United States with his old mate Eric Clapton and a whole host of others, so he’s sure to be on top form by the time he arrives with us next month. His return to the Beambridge promises to be a stunner!

We hope to see you there and thank you in advance for your support of local live music.

Many thanks

Please note this is not a Milverton Music Club gig but we thought you might like the opportunity to see this guitar legend locally.

A trip to the opera

If you’ve never been to an opera, here’s your chance to immerse yourself in the amusing story of The Gondoliers by Gilbert and Sullivan, performed by Somerset Opera.

The performance takes place on Saturday 25 March in the Victoria Rooms. Doors open at 7pm. Tickets £10 each can be purchased from the Milverton Stores, cash only.

Synopsis

The Gondoliers (or The King of Barataria) tells the story of two charming Venetian gondoliers, Giuseppe and Marco, who are informed that due to an error of identity when they were young boys, one of them is the heir to the throne of Barataria.

They are delighted with the situation and agree to share the responsibilities of governing their new kingdom until it can be ascertained which of them is which, but matters are complicated when the Duke and Duchess of Plaza Toro reveal that their beautiful daughter, Casilda, was married to the future king as an infant.

The problem? Giuseppe and Marco are both newly married to the contadine Tessa and Gianetta, and Casilda is in love with her father’s attendant, Luiz.

Since its premiere in 1889, The Gondoliers has delighted audiences with its memorable score by Sullivan, and its political satire, cleverly tucked into Gilbert’s witty plot line.

Burns Night supper

On Wednesday 25 January over 50 members of the local community celebrated a hugely successful Burns Night Supper hosted by Torquil Buist in the Victoria Rooms.

The evening  began with Scottish reels followed by a bagpiper Alastair Caygill piping in the entrance of the haggis. David Hatfield eloquently read the famous Burns poem ‘Ode to a haggis’. A delicious supper of haggis, tatties and neeps and Cranachan was served and enjoyed by all the guests.
