Those of us who were doubly privileged to attend the workshop in Wivey Church as well as the concert by VOCES8 had an afternoon and evening to remember.

Not only superb artistry, and mastery of the sacred as well as jazz! but they are absolutely charming people.

Many thanks to the Milverton Concert Society for hosting this packed and thoroughly entertaining evening, and to Wivey Church.

Wellington Choral Society

Milverton Concert Society October update

Red Priest

Saturday 16 October  at St Andrew’s Church Wiveliscombe.

Four-piece baroque super-group Red Priest were due to perform for Milverton Concert Society in March 2020. The concert had sold out, but, shortly before the concert, everything changed and we sadly had to postpone their visit.  So, here we are in October 2021 with tickets selling very fast for their concert on 16 October at St Andrew’s church,
Wiveliscombe.

We urge you to get your tickets as soon as possible and, as we are still operating a ‘socially distanced’ seating policy, we would encourage you to buy your tickets with friends so that you can sit together in a’ bubble’.

Red Priest is the only early music group in the world to have been compared in the press to the Rolling Stones, Jackson Pollock, the Marx Brothers, Spike Jones and the Cirque du Soleil!  They have become an international phenomenon, turning the period instrument movement on its head with its thrilling, no-holds-barred approach to the genre.

‘For sheer technical wizardry, charismatic showmanship, and expressive devilment, Red Priest is in an exhilarating class of its own.’ (BBC Music Magazine)

This extraordinary acoustic foursome has been described by music critics as ‘visionary and heretical’, ‘outrageous yet compulsive’, ‘completely wild and deeply imaginative’.

The programme at Wiveliscombe includes Bach, Vivaldi, Albinoni and Tartini.

Milverton Music open mic session goes ahead

The open mic session is due to take place on Friday 3 September. Numbers are restricted to keep people safe. We can only admit people who have reserved their seats and unfortunately, we are already full.

The virtual music club sessions have expanded to 160 artists over the last 18 months. Have a look on the Milverton Music website.

Thank you for all your nice comments and good wishes. It has been an interesting exercise and between us, we’ve found some wonderful music.

We are currently reserving seats for Cara Dillon on 15 October. Phone 01823 400416 or email milvertonmusicclub@gmail.com.

Enjoy the summer, take care of each other and we look forward to seeing you again for our open mic session on 3 September, 1 October and 6 November.

Milverton Music July update

The team met a few weeks ago to plan the re-opening of Music Club on 2 July. However, the wretched virus continues to have a significant effect on many aspects of our lives and the latest variant has scuppered our plans.

In the current environment things can change at the last minute but we will update you by email should any changes affect a forthcoming gig.

Currently the Cara Dillon and Sam Lakeman gig on 15 October is still running and we will be selling tickets in September, but please contact us to book your seats and we’ll put your name on the quickly filling list.

Phone 01823 400416 or email milvertonmusicclub@gmail.com

Enjoy the Summer, take care of each other and we look forward to seeing you again in September. First Friday open mic on 3 September.

Milverton Music June update

The Silver Street Band are gradually trying to escape from the lockdown, but of course anything we do at Milverton Music is dependent on the Government Covid policy at the time. In the current environment things can change at the last minute, but we will update you should any changes affect a forthcoming gig.

The team are meeting in May to plan a Victoria Rooms layout which will ensure both our audience and musicians can safely be accommodated. We will also be putting various measures in place to ensure a Covid secure environment which should not adversely affect the enjoyment of either the musicians or the audience.

We look forward to seeing you on 2 July, but until then please stay safe and look after one another.
