Milverton Music February update

Adam SweetWell, here we go into 2024, February already and time for our first guest of the year. The Adam Sweet Acoustic Blues Trio on 16 February.

Adam played at the club back in 2012 and 2015. Now a full-time blues musician and singer, his career has blossomed. Adam delivers brooding blues and rootsy rock, balancing richly detailed song writing with soulful vocals and expertly piercing guitar work. He is a young bluesman with an ancient soul and a large presence in the here-and-now. With Paddy Blight, double bass and Garry Kroll, percussion we look forward to a very special evening in the Milverton Delta.

January news

In January we were full with an 80 plus audience, seats not age! Good to see Mandy Woods having travelled through the flooded roads from Glastonbury. Welcome to Sarah and Pat Hayward and Cam Chilcott, their first time at Milverton. Also, thanks to all those who played and sang, and made our first session of 2024 such a success. As always thanks to our wonderful audience.

Milverton Music Club July update

Our last club night before the summer break is on Friday 7 July when the theme is songs by Gordon Lighfoot. This prolific Canadian singer and song writer passed away in early May aged 84. His songs include ‘Early Morning Rain;, ‘Sundown’, If You Could Read My Mind’, Rainy Day People’ and were recorded by many artists including Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley and Peter, Paul and Mary.

Memorable evening

There are evenings that are good and evenings that are memorable. 2 June was a tad hot, but the music was wonderful. A packed house of 80+ enjoyed a smashing evening of great singing and playing. Good to see The West Street band for the first time alsoTim and Katie Cooke. Plus a welcome return for the medical miracle that is Alan Pettifer. Thanks to all who played and sang.

A truly royal evening when our theme was embraced by all the players, the audience and of course the special guest, HRH himself. Thanks to everyone for making it special.

We had a royal music quiz (guess the song, artist and year) prizes, delivered by sweet thrower extraordinaire Trev Lloyd.

We look forward to seeing you on 1 May at the Street Fair when the Silver Street Band and friends will be playing outside the Victoria Rooms from 11am.

Our next open mic night is on Friday 5 May when we will have a Coronation theme. Doors open at 7.30pm, music starts at 8pm. Bring a celebration drink and snack to toast the new King. There will be a Royal Music Quiz and music from Tony Batte, The Silver Street Band, Peter Luke, Paul Ewings with Chris and Roll, The Quaytones, Trevor Lloyd, Go West, Zig Grochala and Ian Mawby.

Phil Beer is one-half of the multi-award-winning acoustic folk and roots powerhouse Show of Hands, and he’s also in demand in his own right as a captivating solo performer. So, what does a man as talented as Phil Beer do when he’s not selling out the Royal Albert Hall with Show of Hands? His solo tour, visits a string of carefully selected venues throughout the UK. He’ll be delivering his unique recipe of rich vocals and flawless musicianship across a range of stringed instruments (Slide, Spanish and Tenor guitar, Mandocello, Viola, Mandolin and South American Cuatro). Another great night at Milverton in March

Our Neil Young theme night was brilliant and everyone embraced his wonderful music. Thanks to all who played and sang songs often outside their usual style and comfort zone. The audience loved it and we all had a great time.

Milverton Music Club in March

Another great night at Milverton on Friday 3 February. Despite some illness causing a shuffle around of singers, the evening was a great success. Thanks to Nick and Trevor for stepping in at the last minute. We are already full for singers on Friday 3 march and Friday 7 April.

Over the years, many things have changed but the friendly and supportive atmosphere to both musicians and audience has remained. Long may it continue and thanks from us all for your support.

Music Club February update


Guest night on Friday 17 February we present The Stonegallows. This is the final world tour for this Wiltshire supergroup. Over the years they have played all over the country at major folk festivals, clubs and concerts, and supported bands including The Strawbs, Steeleye Span, Gallagher and Lyle.

The picture shows the 1972 line up with Tony Batten, Alan Briars, John Alderslade and Richard Williams.

Our pre-Christmas bash kick-started the festive season. We had the pleasure to present, to our sell-out audience a return visit from Bristol’s Gee Baby I Love You. 

We enjoyed Tone’s famous music quiz with prizes. The ticket price also included a delicious buffet supper from Country Bumpkin Catering.
